A ferrarai hercegi udvar két jelentős költőjének, Tito Vespasiano Strozzi (1424–1505) és fia, Ercole (1473–1508) verseinek első, Aldus Manutius-féle kiadása. Az 1513-as kiadási dátum a velencei naptár szerint értendő; a szokásos Gergely-naptár szerint ez 1514.

A híres gyűjtemény első részét Lucrezia Borgiának ajánlották; ez Ercole különféle verseit tartalmazza a vadászatról, a barátságról, a szerelemről és a mitológiáról. A műben több méltatás is helyet kapott, köztük Aldus Manutius gyászbeszéde Ercole 1508-ban bekövetkezett korai halálára. A második rész, amelyet Ercole d’Este ferrarai hercegnek ajánlottak, Tito Vespasiano műveit egyesíti: az Eroticont, az Aeolostichont és más finom költeményeket, melyeket Petrarca és más latinista szerzők inspiráltak.

A kötetnek magyar vonatkozása is van, hiszen az idősebb Strozzi jó barátja volt Janus Pannoniusnak. "Strozzi három verset írt Janushoz, a korábbi közlések ezek szövegét az 1513/14-es Aldus Manutius-féle kiadás alapján hozták. [...] A Janus- és Strozzi-kéziratok vizsgálata világossá tette, hogy az Aldus Manutius, Zsámboky és Telekiék által kinyomtatott versváltozatok lényegesen eltérnek azoktól, melyeket maga Janus olvashatott." A forradalmi zseni, Aldus Manutius (1449–1515) kiadásai a könyvnyomtatás történetének legértékesebb darabjai közé tartoznak. Manutius volt az a humanista, aki Gutenberg találmányát a modernizáció rendkívül hatékony és elegáns hajtóerejévé alakította, ötvözve a kulturális küldetés iránti bátorságot a vállalkozói készséggel.

A címlap verzóján korabeli tintás hexameteres verssorok a két Strozziról. Az elülső előzéklapon XVIII–XIX. századi poss. bejegyzések. A könyvek elején fametszetes nyomdajellel.

Valamivel későbbi pergamenkötésben; kisebb foltokkal, a kötözőzsinórok hiányoznak, a könyvtest megtört. Néhol enyhe barnulás és foltosodás. Hét lap felső sarka szakszerűtlenül javított, a második részben némi margómenti beázás nyoma észlelhető.

The first Aldus edition of the poems of two significant poets of the ducal court of Ferrara, Tito Vespasiano Strozzi (1424–1505) and his son, Ercole (1473–1508). The publication date of 1513 is according to the Venetian calendar; according to the Gregorian calendar, it is 1514.

The first part of the famous collection is dedicated to Lucrezia Borgia; it contains various poems by Ercole on hunting, friendship, love, and mythology. The work also includes several eulogies, among them Aldus Manutius's funeral oration on the premature death of Ercole in 1508. The second part, dedicated to Ercole d'Este, Duke of Ferrara, brings together the works of Tito Vespasiano: the Eroticon, the Aeolostichon, and other delicate poems inspired by Petrarch and other Latinist authors.

The volume also has a Hungarian connection, as the elder Strozzi was a close friend of Janus Pannonius. The two poets formed a strong friendship during their studies under Guarino da Verona. "Strozzi wrote three poems to Janus; earlier publications presented the texts of these based on the 1513/14 Aldus Manutius edition. [...] An examination of the Janus and Strozzi manuscripts made it clear that the poem variants printed by Aldus Manutius, Zsámboky, and the Telekis differ significantly from those that Janus himself could have read." The editions created by the revolutionary genius Aldus Manutius (1449–1515) are considered among the most valuable pieces in the history of printing. Manutius was the humanist who transformed Gutenberg's invention into a highly efficient and elegant driving force of modernization, combining the audacity of a cultural mission with entrepreneurial skill.

On the verso of the title-page contemporary hexameter in ink dedicated to the two Strozzis. On the front endpaper, 18th–19th century poss. inscriptions.

Some slight browning and staining, old ms. notes to endpapers and title-page verso, upper corner of 7 leaves unskillfully repaired, some marginal waterstaining to part 2. Bound in slightly later flexible vellum; minor spotting, ties removed, bookblock cracked.
